Kinky or what?

WERE you aware that Friday the 16th January was an internationally celebrated day? Probably not. Unless, that is, you have a proclivity for the colour purple and maybe a specific attraction to rubber, or feet, or frogs, or stiletto heels. If you still don’t know what day it was, then let me enlighten you. The third Friday in January is now being celebrated as International Fetish Day and people who have a fetish are being asked to show their support by wearing the colour purple – Perverts Wear Purple! Interestingly, the first Fetish Day was celebrated in England a year ago under the title National Fetish Day, but this has clearly now expanded to embrace fellow international ‘perverts’ around the globe.

Now there is a fine line between what people consider a fetish and what they consider reasonably normal behaviour, but everyone agrees that a fetish is the sexual attraction, and associated pleasure, to an object which is not usually regarded as being sexual. The most well-known fetishes across the world are the high heeled shoe, stockings and other assorted lingerie, and whilst a woman will wear such items as they are part of her standard wardrobe, a man will be associating them with hot, hot sex!
Many people regard fetishism as being more of a ‘man thing’ but women enjoy a considerable number of fetishes, although we are perhaps a little bit more discreet in the sharing of this knowledge. Unusually, in the area of fetishism, it is the men who like to talk about what turns them on, and who are more up front when admitting that a bit of bondage is what adds that extra bit of spice to their love life. Women may talk about their fantasies and fetishes with their girlfriends, and possibly boyfriends, but do not go so far as to publish magazines in the mainstream on what their ideal fetish object might be. Also, it is not women who tend to get caught by the tabloids with their not so metaphorical trousers down in a weird fetish club where the guys dress up as babies, wear nappies and get breast fed by their wet-nurses!
Women tend to be less extreme in their sexual fantasies, and their desires are usually within the spectrum of what is considered ‘normal’. For example, most ladies, both oriental and occidental, understand (and use to good effect) the power of wearing a sexy, feminine corset, suspenders and black stockings underpinned by a pair of pointy patent high heels. These items may be at the top of the fetish list for men, but women certainly share the pleasure engendered by these simple items of clothing.
And then there are uniforms! Apparently the school-girl uniform is the most popular clothing fetish admitted to by men both in the west and in Japan, but many women also get a kick out of dressing up to look like the young school girl of their youth. The power of the school-girl fetish should not be underestimated as we all saw from the furore that a younger Britney Spears created with her first video for ‘…Baby One More Time.’
Dressing up as doctors and nurses involves another clothing fetish that is equally as popular among women as men, and having a romp in the doctor’s surgery on his/her consulting couch is a fun fantasy that many people will happily admit to. In fact, uniforms play a big part in fetishism, particularly the PVC and rubber costumes that our S & M friends are partial to, but this is where the line between what is considered normal and what is considered a bit more weird becomes a little blurred. If you are old enough to remember the ‘wet-look’ fashion of the 70s when we were all parading in the High Street on a Saturday afternoon in our shiny plastic boots, jackets, coats and trousers, then it was only a small step into the weirder world of S & M, although we didn’t know about all that kinky stuff in those days as we didn’t have the world wide web showing us in graphic detail!
Just in case you are interested, objects that are used as less common or mainstream fetishes include frogs, glue, hearing aids, heart pace-makers, insects, cuddly toys, balloons, robots, enemas, hot wax and paper! However, I won’t dwell on this aspect of fetishism as I really don’t want to imagine what people might be doing with any of the above objects – cuddly toys in particular!
So when the next International Fetish Day turns up next year, maybe Pattaya should take the lead and organise appropriate events for the occasion. But may I respectfully suggest that instead of wearing purple on that day, us ladies should develop the idea a little more creatively and don a variety of school-girl and nurses outfits with stiletto shoes and corset accessories instead!
